Golf Course Design
The golf course has been designed to both maximize the use of the most suitable
land and also provide good views for the residents. Several attractive
development areas have been incorporated within the golf course, allowing for
good views of the golf course for various land use options. The golf course has
been designed in a way that housing will not have a negative impact on the golf
experience.
The design of the golf course incorporates the use of existing ridges, wetlands
and natural features to reduce the need for significant earthmoving and shaping
of the land. The design calls for the creation of an integrated water feature
that would collect runoff and flow back into the natural waterway. A large area
separating holes #10 and #11 forms the practice facility and provides target
greens, a large grass tee and over 300 yards of length. The routing of the golf
course consists of two nine-hole loops that return to the clubhouse area, which
overlooks the course from a plateau.
Every conceivable angle has been used in laying out the holes to provide variety
regardless of wind directions. Most holes run north and south but enough shot
angles are created within the plan to make each hole play different depending on
the weather. It is anticipated that ten holes will have either water or
naturalized wetlands in play. Three holes will be cut out of the existing bush
and the remaining five holes will have a distinctive links look and feel with
an abundance of sand and native grass planting. The golf course length would
range from 5000 yards to over 7000 yards and would be considered very playable
from all of the multiple teeing areas. The orientation of the tees would provide
more strategy from the back and offer more relief from the front. Hazards such
as bunkers and ponds have been designed and located to test low handicap
players, high handicappers should not be as affected by these hazards. Due to
the topography of this course, golf carts would not be required, however a
suitable pathway network would be developed.
In order to meet the needs of the golfers, we have designed a course that would
be enjoyable to play every day by all skill levels. We anticipate the time to
play should be just over 4 hours; speed of play will be encouraged, but not
rushed. The setting for this course will offer relaxation and no pressures, this
is what the people will come to expect and that is what will be marketed. The
average golfers are the people who will be most important to the success of the
golf course.
This same course could be set up for tournament play to challenge any player by
strategic placement of pins, changing contour mowing and using back tee
positions. Several grass hollows that are incorporated within the design would
normally be well maintained and easy to play from. These same features are
designed to be grass bunkers when grown in for tournament play.
